My Body Belongs to Me! is not the kind of book to have laying on your child’s bookshelf but more like a book to be on mom and dad’s bookshelf and to be read as a family. The subject needs to be addressed once the book is finished in a more thorough discussion to make sure they fully understand everything that was read to them.
My Body Belongs to Me! is written for an early reader, but I feel this book is one to be read as a family. The subject is a sensitive one and needs to be discussed so the child understands it fully. This book may encourage a child to tell if he/she has been abused as it shows how brave it is to tell someone.
I was impressed with Jill Starishevsky for including information of where to get help and how to discuss this book as a family. Many families are uncomfortable with this subject however it MUST be addressed. Jill Starishevsky helps with questions and comments at the end of the book.
Again, this is a tough subject but needs to be addressed. This book may be a way to help get the discussion going!
