I am going to start a new regular post that you can expect once a week. I am going to either share what I have read this week or a book I have enjoyed reading and think you might like to try.
This week I read A Stolen Life: A Memoir . This is the story of Jaycee Dugard. This story caught my interest as she is close to my age and she was abducted and not released for another 18 years. By that point she had two children fathered by the man who abducted and raped her. Oh my, I can’t even imagine. . .
So when I saw this book at my local library it caught my interest. I thought I am curious what was her life like for 18 years? Did she really never have a single chance to try to escape during that time. You do find out the answers to all of these questions in this book. I found this book at times difficult to read but it is quite inspiring to find this girl that has gone through say this, “I don’t think of myself as a victim. I survived.” She is so resilient and unwilling to let this define her life and the future she wants for her children. Wow, is all I can say!
This book is just what the title says a memoir written by Jaycee. As she lets you know in the introduction sometimes she jumps around a bit but this is what her life was like or how her memory allows her to remember the events. Also a word of warning: be prepared for some very graphic and terrible details she shares. So although it was quite hard to get through at some points as my heart just hurt for this young girl it was so great to know in the end she was able to get away and be this amazing person she is today.
